Friend of a Saint
Ven. Bro. Gabriel, in your life you felt the sweet consolation of being the friend of Saint John Vianney. When he saw you for the first time he did not hesitate to call you “friend of God” and, since that time, a deep friendship united both of you. Saint John Vianney appreciated the life and the work of the Brothers and sent 40 young men to the Congregation. He gave the Brothers the advice to be simple, to be humble because in simplicity and humility they would do a lot of good. When you wrote a book praising your friend as a “saint”, he was so disappointed that your friendship risked to be broken. But, in this circumstance, the holy priest gave a great lesson of humility
Prayer:
I love you, o my God, and my only wish is to love you till my last breath. I love you, o my infinitely loving God, and I prefer dying loving you than living for a single moment without you.
I love you, o my God, and I want to go to heaven just to feel the happiness of loving you perfectly.
O my God, if my tongue can’t tell you at every moment that I love you, at least may my heart repeat my love for you at every heart-beat. O give me the grace to suffer while loving you and to love while suffering. Grant that, in the day of my death I feel that I am still loving you.
As my last hour comes near, I ask you to make my love for you grow stronger and more perfect. Amen.
